I can’t believe it’s already July. I’ve been married 6 months today and it really has flown by! In honor of the upcoming 4th of July weekend, I hereby dedicate this post to my favorite summertime treat…the watermelon! It just wouldn’t be Independence Day without it, and I plan on eating a LOT of it this weekend.
After doing a little digging on one of my new favorite Web sites, whfoods.org (The World’s Healthiest Food cook book is amazing and all the recipes are very easy to whip up in a matter of minutes!), I learned that watermelon not only quenches your thirst, but it also reduces the inflammation that leads to conditions like asthma, atherosclerosis, diabetes, colon cancer and arthritis.
If that’s not enough, watermelon is jam packed with some of the most powerful antioxidants in nature. As long as you’re snacking, you might as well demolish a few free radicals while you’re at it right? Check it:
So you know what to do…go forth and eat watermelon my friends! The good-n-juicy ones are deep in color and have less white lines on them. Make sure you’re near a restroom though…watermelons are 92% water!
